Handicap Parking

Any vehicle visibly marked with a disabled parking tag or other form of identification may park at any on-street metered location for free for a maximum of posted time. Vehicles parked at a metered location beyond maximum posted hours are subject to a parking violation citation. Disabled free parking does not apply any space within any town owned surface parking lots.

Disabled Parking FAQ's

With regard to all Handicap parking in the Town of Barnstable: All spaces marked with both a handicap symbol on the ground as well as a Handicap symbol on a free standing sign, require a vehicle to display either a current Handicap placard or Handicap license plate.

Without displaying either a current Handicap placard or license plate while parked in a Handicap space carries a violation of $100.00 in the Town of Barnstable.

With regard to Handicap parking in resident only beaches: Handicap spaces in resident only beach parking lots are designated for residents of the Town of Barnstable who park and display a current Handicap placard or license plate while parked in a Handicap space.

Resident only beach parking lots are not admissible by non-resident guests, to include those displaying current Handicap placards or license plates, unless either landlord passes have been purchased by the Recreation Department. Visitors to resident only beaches who wish to obtain a Landlord Permit from the Barnstable Recreation Division may utilize this link to do so:

With regard to Handicap parking at either of the two of the Town of Barnstable’s pay to park lots, Ocean Street or Bismore Park: If you choose to park in the Ocean Street Lot in Hyannis, you must be parked in a designated Handicap space and display a current Handicap placard or license plate to park for free. Those parking in such Handicap spaces must still adhere to the seasonal time limits set in place for that lot.

If you choose to park in the Bismore Parking Lot, please note these distinct regulations: The Bismore Parking Lot is comprised of two lots on either end of Bismore Park, as well as one other length of parking along Ocean Street on the right of way. If you choose to park in any of the Handicap spaces on the Ocean Street right of way side of Bimsore Park and display a current Handicap placard or license plate, you may park for free. If you choose to park in either of the end lots of Bismore Park, you MUST be parked in a Handicap space, displaying a current placard or license plate to park for free. If the Handicap spaces in the two end lots of Bismore Park are taken you must pay to park in any of the other numbered spots despite displaying a current Handicap placard or license plate.

If you choose to park in either of the two end lots of Bismore Park, and are not in marked Handicap space, even though you display a current Handicap placard or license plate, you will be ticketed a $40.00 violation fee for failure to pay to park.

*The Town of Barnstable owns and regulates Bismore Park and has determined the rules for Handicap parking and violations as such .
